What Is General Dentistry?
Our most common treatments and procedures to maintain your oral health include one or more of the following:
Regular checkups keep your teeth and gums at their best. They may include x-rays or other diagnostic procedures as well as consultations on suggested dental care for the future.
Hygiene appointments contribute to healthy gums and white teeth. These routine procedures remove plaque, stain, and tartar (mineralized plaque), and may include a fluoride treatment. This is key to preventing cavities, gingivitis and periodontal disease.
Sometimes we need a refresher on how to correctly floss and brush to prevent tooth loss and gum disease, which can be caused by bacteria found in tartar and plaque. We are more than happy to answer your questions!
When a cavity develops on your tooth we will remove that part of the tooth and replace it with a filling. The filling is typically a white composite material, but can also be an amalgam, gold or porcelain.
A tooth with an large filling or a fracture may need reinforcement. Usually made of porcelain, a crown encases the entire tooth. A veneer is bonded to the front surface of the tooth.
Literally bridging the gap between one or more missing teeth, these consist of abutments (crowns on existing teeth) and pontics (crowns for missing teeth) made from a variety of materials including porcelain and gold alloy.
